Letter from Dave Putson
I usually give the Daily Mail and its subsidiaries a wide berth, but it has been brought to my attention that they have done another smear piece, but this time on a very good friend, Lubna Speitan.
Her apparent crime is to be a Green Party member, but worse, she is apparently a “policy mastermind”. And this is where I always have issues with this publication: their accuracy. She is not a “policy mastermind”, she is a “Palestinian policy mastermind”. And now the publication’s animosity becomes a little clearer.
The Daily Mail is regularly involved in a stream of slurs and smears against people who hold diametrically opposite views to them. Being a Palestinian, a very smart Palestinian, and a very capable advocate for Palestinians, Lubna is a prime target.
But even worse, she has the temerity to have a voice and use it for the Palestinian cause. Having the sheer temerity to not only think but actually write a motion for the Green Party Spring conference is seemingly for the Mail, a step too far.
The Mail has history, as we see from Wikipedia:
“The Zinoviev letter was a forged document published and sensationalised by the Daily Mail newspaper four days before the 1924 United Kingdom general election, which was held on 29 October The letter purported to be a directive from Grigory Zinoviev, the head of the Communist International (Comintern) in Moscow, to the Communist Party of Great Britain (CPGB), ordering it to engage in seditious activities. It stated that the normalisation of British–Soviet relations under a Labour Party government would radicalise the British working class and put the CPGB in a favourable position to pursue a Bolshevik-style revolution.”
So, as you can see, the Mail has been an advocate for the Establishment, the far right and fascists for a considerable period of time, over a century! Once again they have managed this in their smear piece against Lubna.
Palestinians have suffered at the hands of Zionism over decades. If you doubt this, read Dimbleby’s The Palestinians, or Illan Pappe’s The Ethnic Cleansing of Palestine, or Rashid Khalili’s The Hundred Years war on Palestine. They will more than explain the history, the passion and the need for justice for them.
This is what the Mail thinks Lubna has the temerity to resist and expose, not by violence, but by proposing a motion “Zionism is Racism” to a political party’s spring conference, seeking to change the Green Party position to one that underwrites Equality as its core belief system. Clearly, the Mail thinks this outrageous.
It is not just the Mail, however; Zionists have protested the policy suggestion. They have worked tirelessly to discredit, smear, bully and threaten those who have been advocated the Palestinian cause and equality within the Green Party. This culminated in all sorts of devious activities to try and stop the motion at the conference, such as Interference with the IT, filibustering and erroneous calls for endless votes of no confidence in the chair.
Lubna advocates for equality for all, she collaborates with people of religions or none. All she seeks is the application of equality under the law, whether that be international, human rights or United Nations resolutions. But I, and many of her friends, are furious at her treatment and the Zionists’ corruption of due process within the Green Party. But I have no doubt she will be presenting the same resolution to the Green Party autumn conference.
