Letter from John Wake, member, Harlow CLP

Dear NEC Member

I am an ordinary member of the Labour Party and I ask you to vote against the motion on the parliamentary candidacy of Jeremy Corbyn at tomorrow’s meeting of the National Executive Committee of the Labour Party.

If this motion was passed, it would contradict the principle of natural justice, a principle that is recognised in British law and acknowledged by adherents of every almost political school of thought in this country, from Conservatives to anarchist communists. (Fascists, needless to say, do not acknowledge the principle of natural justice).

This motion is also an attack on internal Labour Party democracy. If it was passed, it would deny the membership of Islington North Constituency Labour Party of their right to re-select as a candidate the person who has represented them and their constituents in Parliament since 1983, who had one of the largest majorities of any Labour MP in the general election of 2019.

It seems to me that this motion would also contravene the Labour Party rule book.

If this Motion was passed it would establish a precedent that would enable the NEC to override the wishes of any CLP and force them to de-select any sitting Labour MP.

Please stand up for natural justice and democracy within the Labour Party, and vote against this Motion.
