It came to mind with the ICJ interim decision that there is plausible evidence that Israel is commiting genocide, and that those supplying the arms to make it possible are complicit. With the UK now one of the countries that has cut off funding for UNRWA, this country is now further complicite in genocide through starvation. Given that it is highly likely that Labour will be forming a new government later in the year, if arms sales to Israel continued, a Labour government could be complicit in genocide.
Surely the left should be raising this now. The following is my attempt to put a draft resolution together for use locally, or in fact anywhere is below. Please feel free to share it:
This branch/constituency notes the interim report of the the International Court of Justice, that there is plausible evidence that Israel is commiting genocidal acts.
In light of this, it is clear that countries like the US and the UK, are complicit by virtue of the fact that they are supplying Israel with the weapons and military intelligence to make this genocide possible.
It is blatantly obvious that the Tory government, despite the ICJ interim decision, is guilty of supporting, and continues to support, Israel’s heinous crimes.
The leadership of the Labour Party has adopted a disgraceful position in relation to this issue, supporting the government, and therefore Israel.
In the light of the ICJ interim decision, and the fact that Labour are likely to form a new government later this year, we call on the leadership of the Labour Party:
- To comdemn Israel’s war crimes and support the call for an immediate ceasefire.
- Restore aid to UNRWA for its humanitarian aid
- To commit to halting all UK weapons sales to Israel
